A FEW HAPPY LITTLE POSSIBILITIES

Make a place you'd like to be.

Happy Little Trees is a free landscape painting tool with textured, procedural brushes. You choose every stroke. There is no score, timer, or AI image generation—just a canvas and a few forgiving tools.

Start with the distance

Wash in a sky, then dab Cloud white across it. Use Mountain knife to pull a rocky face down from a peak; add a few broken Snow strokes for light. Sky stays behind the scenery, so you can soften it later.

Find the water's edge

Set the Water line and brush Reflections sideways below it after painting the scenery above. Add short Ripples for light on the lake. Shoreline makes an earthy bank; Grass gives it a softer edge.

Give it a little life

Use the Tree brush to sweep short branches outward, making them longer toward the base. Each stroke tapers at its tip. Tap Bushes for a clump or drag a short hedge, then dab Sunlit leaves over the base. Tap to place a Cabin, or drag to adjust its position before lifting.

Leave room to experiment

Change brush size for distant details or a bold foreground. Show brush guide and the demonstration button help with each gesture. Undo and Redo let you try again. Try a landscape gives you a complete starting scene you can keep painting.

A few useful answers

Is Happy Little Trees free?

Happy Little Trees is free to use in your browser. No account or installation is required.

Does it use AI to make the painting?

No. You make the painting with procedural brushes. Each gesture lays down shapes and paint texture; the app does not send prompts to an AI image generator.

How do water reflections work?

Paint your sky, mountains, and other scenery first. Choose Water and Reflections, set the waterline, then brush sideways below it. The brush picks up mirrored colors from the scene above. Changing the waterline affects new strokes; it does not move water already painted.

Is my painting saved?

Your latest painting and brush settings are saved in this browser when local storage is available. Drafts stay on the same browser and device and do not sync. Clearing browser data removes the draft. Undo and Redo history lasts for the current visit.

How do I download my landscape?

Choose Save PNG to download a 900 by 650 pixel image of your painting. Guides and the keyboard cursor are left out. The PNG is a finished image, not an editable painting file. On a phone, your browser may open the image for saving or sharing.

Can I paint with a phone, a pen, or a keyboard?

Use a mouse, finger, or compatible pen to paint inside the canvas. With a keyboard, focus the Paint a mark button, use arrow keys to position the brush, hold Shift for smaller steps, and press Enter or Space to paint. Use Tab to reach the other controls.
