MONOLITH / FIELD GUIDE

Good cities begin
with curiosity.

Start with the city in front of you. Click a building and pull a slider. Small changes can make a very different place.

01 / Make

Choose one of six typologies, then tap an open lot. A green outline means it fits. Keep building, or press Escape to select.

02 / Shape

Choose Brutalist, Art Deco, or Timber in Surface. Sculpt height, footprint, setbacks, and terraces, then explore crowns, ornament, pitched roofs, eaves, or pilotis: columns that lift a building off the ground.

03 / Observe

Move the sun. Compare daylight, density, and activity views. FAR is floor area divided by the building's site footprint; daylight and carbon are approximate design indicators.

04 / Live

In Simulate, choose a living city for a limited budget. A mix of homes, civic jobs, green space, and daylight attracts people. Advance time to see it evolve.

Imprint a language: choose an architecture in the library and select Imprint a style. Preview one building, its street block, or the whole city. Tap a building to hold the preview, then Apply. Footprints and occupied floors stay the same; Undo restores the entire imprint and its cost. Parks stay as they are. A planted timber roof stays flat; turn planting off to explore roof rise.

Make room for life: open Public space to change one street segment into a green boulevard or pedestrian street. Preview before applying. Place paths, plazas, trees, benches, lights, planters, and fountains; select them to resize, rotate, move, or remove. Active traffic lanes must stay clear. In a building's Details tab, choose a ground-floor use to add a café, shops, offices, workshops, homes, or a community room. Upper floors keep their use.

Two possible futures: in Experience, save your current city as A or B. Preview either without changing your working city or camera angle. Compare construction, housing, jobs, daylight, walking, greenery, and carbon. Restore a study to edit it; Undo restores your working city. Studies save separately in this browser; download each to keep a portable copy.

Take a walk: choose Take a walk in Experience. Use WASD, arrow keys, or hold the onscreen direction buttons, and drag the city to look. Click the city to return keyboard focus after using a control. Follow a resident takes a guided route; walls and public furniture shape the journey. Escape or Back to model returns to the studio.

Look around: drag to orbit, right-drag to pan, scroll to zoom. On touch screens, drag with one finger; pinch or use two fingers to move. Street view: drag to look around your neighborhood.

A city worth keeping.

Starting over or importing replaces the current city. Undo brings it back. Downloads stay on your device.
